Broker signals vs copy trading vs third-party tools

“Trading signals” covers three different things, and it is worth separating them before you choose a broker. A third-party signal toolsuch as Autochartist or Trading Central scans the market mechanically and hands you a pattern-based idea with entry, target and stop levels — you decide whether to take it. A broker’s proprietary research desk produces human analysis: trade views, macro commentary and, in the best cases, genuine sentiment data drawn from its own client book, such as IG Client Sentiment or the OANDA order book. Copy trading, by contrast, is not a signal at all — it automatically mirrors another trader’s positions in your account, as eToro’s CopyTrader does.

The distinction matters for both control and cost. Signals keep every decision in your hands; copy trading delegates it. Third-party tools are often free but occasionally gated or, at Admirals’s standalone Autochartist, a paid add-on. And a signal is never advice: under MiFID II these tools are general information, not a personal recommendation. Whichever route you pick, the underlying risk is unchanged — between 74% and 89% of retail CFD accounts lose money, and no signal service alters the leverage and volatility that drive those losses.

1

IG

9.2/10

The broadest stack we tested: native Autochartist pattern recognition that populates a trade ticket in one click, Acuity/PIA-First signals, an in-house research desk that absorbed DailyFX's output, and live IG Client Sentiment showing the net buy/sell positioning of IG's own book. Nothing else on this page combines third-party signals and genuine proprietary research at this depth, and it is all included for clients under BaFin-regulated IG Europe GmbH.

Paired with the Saxo Strategy Team's institutional-grade macro research, it is the cleanest fully-free signals experience here for traders who value signal quality and platform polish over raw breadth.

8.6/10

OANDA pairs Autochartist — available both as a web app and an MT5 expert-advisor overlay — with a Dow Jones FX Select newswire and its own MarketPulse research portal. Its distinctive edge is the OANDA order book: live open-order and open-position ratios drawn from its client base, a genuine sentiment dataset few retail brokers publish. FxPro

8.5/10

FxPro is one of the few brokers here that runs a genuine dual third-party stack: Trading Central-powered Trading Signals delivered as MT4/MT5 indicators and via a mobile app (short-, medium- and long-term calls), alongside Autochartist pattern and volatility analysis on MetaTrader. For a trader who specifically wants both Trading Central and Autochartist on MetaTrader, FxPro is the most direct route.

Trading Central also surfaces inside the MetaTrader Supreme Edition plugin. Forex.com

8.4/10

FOREX.com skips the third-party technical-signal vendors in favour of a strong proprietary AI stack: SMART Signals scans 36 markets for recurring chart patterns and shows how each pattern performed on its last ten triggers, integrated Reuters news is free across the platform including MetaTrader, and Performance Analytics is a behavioural tool that surfaces a trader's own edge and leaks. All standard, no subscription.

eToro

8.5/10

eToro belongs on this page as the social-signals pick rather than a technical one: it carries no Autochartist or Trading Central feed, but CopyTrader lets clients mirror other traders' positions directly, and market-sentiment tooling, TipRanks analyst data and community sentiment tags give a crowd-driven read on direction. The right choice for traders whose idea of a 'signal' is what the wider market is actually doing.

Honourable mentions

Strong on research but narrower on signals, or recently changed their tool line-up.

Tickmill

Free Acuity-powered Signal Centre (launched 2025) with entry/TP/SL trade ideas plus an Acuity sentiment tool on MT4/MT5. Note: Tickmill no longer carries Autochartist or Trading Central.

Plus500

Offers Trading Central analysis plus a sentiment indicator, daily market commentary, an economic calendar and 'AI Bites' — more third-party research than its minimalist reputation suggests, though no Autochartist.

XTB

No third-party technical-signal vendor, but a strong in-house research team: daily 'Chart of the day', short-term trade ideas in the news flow, screeners and a forex heatmap inside xStation 5.

How we ranked them

Frequently asked questions

What are forex trading signals?
A trading signal is a suggested trade — typically an entry price, a take-profit and a stop-loss on a specific instrument — generated by an analysis engine or a human analyst. In forex, most broker-provided signals come from third-party tools such as Autochartist or Trading Central, which scan price action for chart patterns, key levels and completed formations, or from a broker's own research desk. A signal is an idea to evaluate, not an instruction: you remain responsible for whether, and how much, to trade.
Which EU brokers offer Autochartist and which offer Trading Central?
Among the brokers on this page, Autochartist is integrated natively by IG, Saxo Bank, OANDA, Swissquote and IC Markets, and is available on FxPro's MetaTrader platforms. Trading Central is offered by FxPro, IC Markets and Admirals (and by Plus500). Some brokers run both — FxPro and IC Markets are the clearest dual-vendor options on MetaTrader. Availability changes: Autochartist was acquired by oneZero in late 2024, and some brokers, such as Tickmill, have since moved to alternative providers like Acuity, so always confirm the tool is live on your account type.
Are broker trading signals free?
Often, but not always. Saxo Bank's Autochartist trade signals, OANDA's Autochartist and MarketPulse, IG's Autochartist and Acuity signals, and Swissquote's Autochartist plugin are all included free for clients. Admirals' Premium Analytics (Trading Central, Acuity, Dow Jones) is free to live-account holders — but its separate Autochartist add-on is a paid subscription. Others provide tools to clients without a headline fee but tie the richest tiers to account level. Treat 'free' as account-dependent and verify on the broker's own tools page before you rely on a specific feature.
Do trading signals actually improve results?
There is no guarantee. Signals can help structure entries and exits and enforce discipline around stops, but they are probabilistic pattern-recognition outputs, not forecasts. Autochartist and Trading Central publish historical pattern-completion statistics, which are useful context, yet past pattern behaviour does not predict future results. Between 74% and 89% of retail investor accounts lose money trading CFDs, and following signals does not change the underlying leverage and volatility risk. Use signals as one input alongside your own analysis and risk management.
What is the difference between trading signals and copy trading?
A signal gives you a trade idea that you choose to act on manually. Copy trading automatically mirrors another trader's positions in your own account, in proportion to your allocation, with no per-trade decision on your part. eToro's CopyTrader is the best-known example on this page. Signals keep you in control of every entry; copy trading delegates that control to the trader you follow. Both carry the full risk of CFD trading, and copied traders can and do lose money.
Can I get trading signals directly inside MetaTrader?
Yes. Autochartist and Trading Central both ship as MT4/MT5 plugins or indicators at several brokers here — FxPro, IC Markets, Swissquote and OANDA (via an MT5 expert advisor) among them — so signals appear on your charts rather than in a separate portal. IC Markets extends this to cTrader, and IG's ProRealTime and proprietary platforms carry Autochartist too. If in-platform delivery matters to you, prioritise a broker whose signal tool runs inside the platform you already trade on.
Are trading signals regulated in the EU?
The signal tools themselves are analysis services, not regulated advice, and are usually presented as marketing or general information rather than a personal recommendation under MiFID II. The brokers that distribute them are regulated: every broker ranked on this page onboards EU/EEA clients through an EU-authorised entity with negative balance protection and investor compensation. That distinction matters — a signal is not tailored financial advice, and the broker's disclaimers will say so.
How did FX-Brokers choose these brokers?
We ranked 10 EU-accessible brokers by the depth, breadth and accessibility of their signal and analysis tools: confirmed live third-party integrations (30%), proprietary research and sentiment data (25%), free versus gated access (20%), platform delivery (15%) and EU regulation (10%). Every integration was verified against the broker's own tools pages in August 2026, and legacy or discontinued tools were excluded. The rating badge shows each broker's overall FX-Brokers score, a separate whole-broker measure.
