What Is an ECN Broker?

An ECN (Electronic Communication Network) broker aggregates buy and sell orders from multiple liquidity providers — banks, hedge funds, prime brokerages, and other market participants — into a single consolidated order book. Your trades are matched electronically against the best available price from this pool, with no dealing desk intervention.

Variable Spreads from 0.0 Pips

Raw interbank pricing means spreads fluctuate with liquidity. On major pairs during peak sessions, spreads can reach zero.

Separate Commission Charge

The broker earns revenue from a fixed commission per lot, not from marking up the spread. This aligns the broker's interests with yours.

Depth of Market Visibility

Level 2 pricing shows multiple bid/ask tiers with volume at each level, revealing the true liquidity behind the quoted price.

No Dealing Desk

Orders are processed automatically without manual intervention. The broker does not trade against you or hold positions on the other side.

No Requotes

Orders execute at the best available price. If the price moves, you get slippage (positive or negative) rather than a rejection.

Commission-Based Revenue

The broker profits when you trade, regardless of whether your trade wins or loses. No conflict of interest.

ECN vs STP vs Market Maker

Understanding execution models helps you choose the right broker for your trading style.

Warning: “ECN” is not a regulated term. Any broker can claim it. Always verify independently.
