Forex Broker Ratings Switzerland 2026

Reviewed by Markets Desk · FX-Brokers editorial

This page shows the category-by-category score behind every broker rating we publish, how those scores are built, and what a high rating does and does not tell a Swiss trader. The numbers are read directly from our editorial database — the same ones that appear on every other page of this site. The Swiss question that a rating alone will not answer is which regulator stands behind the account, so we answer that separately, and honestly: almost none of these brokers hold a FINMA licence.

Quick answer

Pepperstone carries the highest overall rating in this table at 9.4/10. That number is a weighted average of eight categories — costs 20%, regulation 20%, execution 15%, platforms 15%, support 10%, education 8%, instruments 7% and EU compliance 5% — not a prize, a seal or a vote. Separately, and more important for a Swiss resident: only Swissquote holds a FINMA licence, and it is not in the table below, because we hold no commercial arrangement with it.

The full editorial ranking for Switzerland, with a long write-up per broker, is at Best Forex Brokers in Switzerland 2026.

How we score a broker

Each rating is a qualitative editorial scoreon a 1.0–10.0 scale, built from eight weighted categories. The overall score is the weighted average of those categories. We publish the weights and what we measure in each of them on the methodology page.

CategoryWeightWhat we measure
Fees & spreads20%Raw spreads, commissions, swap rates, deposit and withdrawal fees, inactivity fees and currency-conversion charges, captured live across multiple sessions.
Regulation & safety20%Licences held, the strength of each regulator, client-fund segregation, compensation-scheme coverage, financial stability and operating history.
Execution quality15%Execution speed, slippage frequency and size, requote rates and fill quality, tested in both normal and volatile conditions.
Trading platforms15%Range and quality of platforms, charting, order types, mobile experience, API access and third-party integrations (MT4, MT5, cTrader, TradingView).
Customer support10%Response time and accuracy over live chat, email and phone, and the languages available — relevant in a country with four of them.
Education & research8%Depth of educational material, research tools, market analysis, webinars and structured learning paths by experience level.
Instruments & markets7%Number and type of tradable instruments: forex pairs, indices, commodities, shares, ETFs, bonds and crypto.
EU compliance5%Verification of leverage limits, negative balance protection, risk-warning display, inducement restrictions and disclosure clarity at the EU-regulated entities.

Two honesties about these numbers.First: we publish seven category scores (regulation, costs, platforms, execution, instruments, support and education) plus the overall. The eighth methodology category — EU compliance — works as a pass/fail verification at the EU-regulated entities (leverage limits, negative balance protection, segregated funds, risk warnings) rather than as a separately published number. It is also the category with the least to say about a Swiss account, since Switzerland is outside the EU regime entirely.

Second, commercial disclosure. We hold affiliate agreements with some of the brokers we rate and earn a commission when a reader opens an account through our links. That does not change the scores, but it does change who appears with a button: the table below shows only brokers whose promotion to a Swiss resident is authorised by our compliance eligibility matrix. Brokers we do not earn from — Swissquote among them — keep their review pages and their scores, and get no button. The unfiltered editorial ranking is on the Switzerland ranking page.

FINMA, Swiss banks, and the passport that stops at the border

Switzerland is not in the EU or the EEA.That single fact changes what a broker rating means here. In Germany or Portugal, an EU-licensed firm serves clients under the MiFID II passport: authorisation and prudential supervision stay with the home regulator, and the local authority supervises conduct. No such passport reaches Switzerland. A broker licensed by CySEC, BaFin or the FCA does not become supervised in Switzerland by serving Swiss residents — it serves them cross-border, under a licence granted somewhere else. FINMA, the Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority, licenses banks and securities firms established in Switzerland; it does not license the brokerage you signed up with in Limassol.

The practical consequence is which entity holds your money. For most of the brokers rated above, the entity recorded for a Swiss resident is not the EU one at all — it is the international arm in Belize, Seychelles or the Bahamas. The entity and protection line under each verdict above states which one, read from our compliance matrix rather than written by hand. That is the number to read before the rating: an offshore entity is outside ESMA and FCA rules, outside the EU and UK compensation schemes, and its negative balance protection is a matter of broker policy rather than statute.

The Swiss-bank distinction

Swissquote is the exception in our database and the reason the distinction is worth drawing at all. Founded in 1996 and headquartered in Gland, Switzerland, it is licensed by FINMA (Switzerland, Banking License), FCA (UK, 562170), SFC (Hong Kong, AZB434). A Swiss banking licence is a different instrument from a brokerage licence: higher capital requirements, bank-grade supervision, and depositor protection under the Swiss scheme run by esisuisse. Our data records that protection as “Swiss Banking Deposit Guarantee up to CHF 100,000”. It is also the highest regulation score we publish, at 9.8/10, against an overall rating of 8.8/10 — the gap between those two numbers is the whole argument of this page.

Two caveats we would rather state than have you discover. Depositor protection covers the failure of the institution, never trading losses — no scheme anywhere reimburses a losing position. And the entry cost is real: the minimum deposit recorded is CHF 1000, with an EUR/USD spread of 1.3 pips (Standard), 0.6 pips (Elite)— materially wider than the raw-spread accounts in the table above. We earn nothing from linking to it, which is precisely why it belongs in an honest ratings page.

How to check, in two minutes.FINMA publishes its own registers of authorised institutions and a public warning list of firms it has flagged. Confirm the exact legal entity named on the broker’s Swiss-facing terms — not the brand — and check it against the register of whichever authority it claims. A firm that does not appear on any register it names should not receive a deposit, however high its rating on any comparison site, this one included.

What a good rating means — and what is only marketing

A rating is only worth its criteria. A high overall score can be carried by platforms and pricing while sitting alongside a weaker regulation score. That is why the table above splits the categories out: if the safety of your money is the priority, read the Regulation column before the Overall column, and read the FINMA column before either. If you trade volume, the Costs column and the EUR/USD spread tell you more than any aggregate.

Awards and seals are not ratings.“Broker of the year” titles, medals and badges are largely conferred by industry publications, in many cases with a paid entry or a sponsorship attached, and almost never with a published method. We do not use them as a scoring input and we do not attribute an award to any broker on this site. A comparison page showing a wall of trophies and no methodology is advertising. We set out how the circuit works in forex broker awards, explained.

Bonuses are not a quality signal — from an EU or UK entity they are banned.ESMA prohibited inducements to open retail CFD accounts across the EU in 2018, and the FCA did the same in the UK in 2019. A broker operating under one of those licences cannot offer a Swiss reader a deposit or welcome bonus. Where an offshore entity offers one, the bonus arrives without the framework that bans it: no statutory leverage cap, no guaranteed negative balance protection, no EU or UK compensation scheme. What legitimately distinguishes brokers is lower spreads and commissions, demo accounts, education and tooling — and that is what the rating measures.

User reviews are a signal, not a score.Aggregate ratings on review sites are useful for spotting patterns — withdrawal delays, support that goes quiet — but they are vulnerable to incentivised campaigns and to complaints driven by market losses, which are not broker failures. Treat them as leads to verify, not as a measurement.

No rating reduces the risk of the product. CFDs are complex instruments and a high percentage of retail investor accounts lose money trading them. A broker at 9.4/10 executes well and costs little; it does not make the trading profitable.

Frequently asked questions

How are these forex broker ratings calculated?
Every broker is scored in eight weighted categories: fees and spreads 20%, regulation and safety 20%, execution quality 15%, trading platforms 15%, customer support 10%, education and research 8%, instruments and markets 7%, and EU compliance 5%. Each category is rated from 1.0 to 10.0 and the overall score is the weighted average of those categories. It is a qualitative editorial rating based on live-account testing, not a raw data index and not a public vote — the full weighting and what we measure in each category is published at /methodology.
Which forex brokers are FINMA-licensed?
Very few. FINMA licenses banks and securities firms established in Switzerland, and in our broker database only Swissquote — a Swiss bank founded in 1996 and headquartered in Gland — holds one. Every other broker rated on this page is licensed elsewhere: in the EU (CySEC, BaFin, the Central Bank of Ireland, the CMVM), in the UK (FCA), in Australia (ASIC), or offshore (Seychelles FSA, Belize, the Bahamas SCB). Switzerland sits outside the EU and the EEA, so the MiFID II passport that lets an EU-licensed firm serve Germany or Portugal does not extend to Swiss residents — those brokers reach Switzerland cross-border, under their home licence rather than under a Swiss one. Check any firm against FINMA's own registers before depositing.
Are forex broker awards the same as ratings?
No, and the difference matters. An award is granted by a third party — usually an industry publication, often with a paid entry or sponsorship attached — and it tells you nothing about the criteria behind it. A rating, at least one worth reading, publishes its weights, its categories and its method so you can disagree with it. We never present an award as evidence of broker quality and we do not score brokers on the trophies they hold. We explain how the industry awards circuit actually works at /forex-broker-awards-explained.
Can a broker offer me a deposit bonus in Switzerland?
Not from an EU or UK entity. ESMA banned inducements such as deposit and welcome bonuses for retail CFD clients in the EU in 2018, and the FCA did the same in the UK in 2019 — a broker operating under those licences cannot offer you one, whatever a comparison site claims. Where a Swiss resident is onboarded by an offshore entity instead, those bans do not apply, but neither do the protections that come with them: the leverage caps, the guaranteed negative balance protection and the EU or UK compensation schemes. We do not promote bonuses, and we do not treat one as a rating input. What legitimately separates brokers is cost, execution, platform quality and the strength of the licence behind the account.
